Ice in a Vice is a frigid collection of ice creaking, cracking, and stress sound effects.
Ice in a Vice… the name says it all, doesn’t it? We took ice, and squeezed the crap out of it with a vice. The result? Plenty of delectable ice crack, creak, and stress sounds.

Ultrasonic Content
Ice in a Vice was recorded at 192kHz/24bit with microphones that capture ultrasonic sounds. “But I’m not a dog!” you say, “I only hear to a mere 20,000 Hz.”
Fret not, Sound Designer, the ultrasonic content in these collections is captured to allow you to massively pitch-shift and process the sounds while retaining fidelity and revealing elements you couldn’t perceive before. Don’t take our word for it. Listen to demos and learn more here!

Thorough UCS Metadata
Ice in a Vice offers thorough UCS compliant metadata that works across all popular audio database software. Each file is embedded with exhaustive information about the recording. Aside from the usual ‘description’, many other fields are available that provide useful tidbits like recording notes, microphone information, category, and sub-category. All sound effects also come embedded with an image showing exactly what was being recorded.

Multi-Take Files
Ice in a Vice takes advantage of multi-take files for many recordings. Adding 55 FILES to your library might sound nice, but logically organizing those 55 SOUNDS into 3 files makes SFX easier to find and edit with in your project.
Ice in a Vice takes each prop recordings various qualities and parses them down to multi-take files, so it’s easy to identify what you’re looking for and have similar takes readily available.

What the Free(ish)?!
Ice in a Vice is a free(ish) library. What does that mean?
Every year (around December 25th), Collected Transients releases a free sound effects library. The catch? It’s only available for free to the public for a very limited time. After that, there are two ways to grab them:
- Purchase any regular (not free-ish) Collected Transients library. Simply add a regular library to your cart and All Free(ish) Libraries will be added to your cart at no additional cost!
- Pay a small fee. After the free period, each library is available to the public for a small fee.
If you want to know when new free(ish) libraries are released, be sure to subscribe to our Mailing List!
