Captured from the middle of chanting protestors, We Are the People showcases the raw energy of the crowds. The protesters had a great variety of chant’s; ranging from the namesake “We are the 99 percent!”, to all encompassing chants like “Fight back!”, to very specific phrases like “Give Obama prison time”.
Two locations give this library two aurally unique crowd environments. Downtown protests reflect off the surrounding buildings, giving them a great urban quality, while the neighborhoosd protests give the impression of a more open environment. Groups of protesters in unified chant ranged in size from just a few to 200 or more. Many of the recordings have wonderful energy builds, starting with one or two voices and growing from there, in both size and intensity.
These recordings work great as stand alone effects or for layering in some specificity to crowds. The next time your designing a defiant crowd, bring some authenticity with We are the People.

Thorough UCS Metadata
We Are the People offers thorough UCS compliant metadata that works across all popular audio database software. Each file is embedded with exhaustive information about the recording. Aside from the usual ‘description’, many other fields are available that provide useful tidbits like recording notes, microphone information, category, and sub-category. All sound effects also come embedded with an image showing exactly what was being recorded.

“We Are the People” has been indispensable on several documentaries in the past year. Lot’s of great detail to add over larger crowd protest scenes with great energy.

I bought “We are the People” off Sonniss back in 2016. Sometimes you have a promo with a clip b-roll of a protest or angry crowd or whatever, and you just need something that works. And it does. I’d actually like more flavours of protests and non-walla crowds and such. Ends up being useful. I think a lot of designers focus on things that sound cool stand alone, and don’t realize a lot of customers are doing spots with competing music, dialogue, and VO. Sometimes you just need workhouse sounds that come up often and fit picture, and will sit in a mix.
I think I may have ended up trailing off in my feedback, but I just wanted to make the point that I appreciate workhouse sounds like that We Are The People. Everyone loves making the really cool design stuff that sounds great solo, but sometimes we just need real sounds for footage. I get so much stuff where they buy stock footage and the sound needs to be created. So I appreciate the workhorse sounds, if that makes any sense and is helpful. Have a great one!
